This site is dedicated to the Language Arts development for Anthony Smith, a first grader at Barrett Ranch Elementary School. Periodic updates will be posted with regard to Anthony's literacy development, including examples of reading assessments, writing assessments, and other information that might be applicable to the development of his reading and writing skills.
This site is open to you, his parents, to help you monitor the development of your son at this time in his academic career. This is a transitional period of sorts, where students start to become more responsible for their work. They are beginning to be exposed to text which they are expected to read, comprehend, and decode for the purposes of gleaning information important to their intellectual development. Their writing skills become increasingly more important, as they the state administered standardized tests at the end of the academic year include a writing assignment...one of only three to be taken before graduating from high school.
Questions and comments are always welcome and encouraged through this page, as communication is the key in a teacher/student/parent relationship.
